A handcoloured antique double page print of the gambling rooms at Monte Carlo. From the November 8, 1890 issue of a famous British weekly illustrated newspaper with immense influence on the art world (of which even Vincent Van Gogh was a fan). The issue date is printed at the top centre of the page, but this is not shown in the photos.
Size of image: ca. 13 inches x 20 inches (33.02 cm x 50.8 cm)
Size of sheet: ca. 26 inches x 23 inches (40.64 cm x 58.42 cm)
The full print is shown in the first photo. Other photos show details from the print. In very good condition. Minor tears along the fold or edges, if any, have been repaired with archival mending tissue. With printing en verso.
This print was based on a famous painting by Jean-Georges Béraud (whose signature appears on the plate), a Russian-born French painter well known for his depictions of daily life in Paris during France's "Belle Epoque". "Rien ne va plus" ("no further bets", in the language of roulette) is not Paris-based but instead shows the gambling rooms at Monte Carlo in Monaco, and focusing on the roulette table, including details of rueful and desperate losers.
This is an original print from 1890, not a reproduction! Bananastrudel sells only originals.
