Sevres Porcelain - 1892 Rare Large Antique Print of the Soft Porcelain of Royal Factory of Sévres - By Edouard Garnier - Blue Rustic Scenes
This is an original print (chromolithograph) from 1892, showing examples of Sévres porcelain, which has been called the porcelain of French royalty. [PLEASE NOTE: This listing is for an antique PRINT showing the porcelain products. It is NOT for the actual porcelain products.]
Size of print: approx. 17.5 inches x 12.5 inches (44.45 cm x 31.75 cm)
The Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory has been creating fine porcelain wares since the early 18th Century, and continues to operate today. Due to its high cost, Sèvres porcelain was owned exclusively by the kings of France, their wives and mistresses, and the wealthiest men and women of the kingdom.
This rare large print comes from the book "La Porcelaine Tendre de Sèvres" ("The Soft Porcelain of Sevres"), which collected 50 chromolithographs of products of the famous Sévres porcelain factory, engraved by Parisian printer Maison Quantin (the name appears at the bottom right of the print). The chromolithographs were based on paintings by Edouard Garnier (whose name is shown at the bottom left of the print), French artist and curator of the Museum of Ceramics and Collections. These prints are rare, as less than 300 copies of the folio were produced.
This stunning chromolithograph is in very good condition and would look lovely and elegant framed! The last photo shows and example of how these rare prints might look when matted (but please note: This listing is for the print only, and does NOT include any matting).
